The author begins by citing at full length a passage from Psalm viii: "What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou didst for a short time make him inferior to angels: thou hast crowned him with glory and honour; thou hast put all things under his feet" (4-6). The writer observes that the last clause here is to be taken strictly: "all things" means the entire universe, without exception.
