Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Very Good. (NYRB Classics series). First published some thirty years ago, this volume of translations of the Russian poet Osip Mandelstam's poems retain their vitality, their tension and memorability. Mandesltam, a contemporary of Akhmatova, Tsvetayeva, and Pasternak, was a crucial instigator of the 'revolution of the word' that took place in St. Petersburg, only to be crushed by the Bolshevik Revolution. The poet was himself incarcerated for a poem that castigated Stalin. He subsequently died in the Gulag. This volume also includes Mandelstam's 'Conversations on Dante,' containing his deepest reflection on the nature of the poetic process. Addenda.
