First edition. 8vo., original pink decorated boards, dust jacket. London, Dennis Dobson. Inscribed by the author, ?To Dennis [sic] - in Dim Recollection - of Shepherds Bush - Best Wishes Spike Milligan 1807? The author's first book, inscribed to Denis Gifford, the legendary cartoonist and collector of British comics. Shepard's Bush is surely a reference to the office of Associated London Scripts, a co-operative for comedy writers, which included Milligan, Galton and Simpson, Tony Hancock, Johnny Speight, and Eric Sykes. Gifford, who in addition to his comic work wrote for the television, was clearly part of the pack there. An excellent copy in a slightly browned and foxed dust jacket, with light wear at extremities and a couple of closed tears.
