Metafora del Sud come luogo altro, Simbari Crichi à uno spazio abitato da giovani che non sanno partire, da folli che provano il volo, da spiriti che parlano in dialetto. Suscitati da nomi surreali, i personaggi vagano in cerchio lungo invisibili e angusti confini da cui fuggono per allargare lo sguardo sul mare, solo orizzonte possibile. Una ad una, le voci di Simbari Crichi si levano a dire il medesimo mondo di memorie e credenze incrostate sottopelle, ma a tratti dalle parole aspre luccicano fuori gli squarci ipnotici dei supermercati e dei fotogrammi televisivi, subito sbiaditi dall'urgenza di una realtà troppo nuda per cedere agli inganni. La vita, l'amore e la morte danzano tutto il loro incanto sanguigno negli occhi di uomini e donne che si stringono alle cose intorno e le nominano, semplicemente. A Simbari Crichi la verità prude come una ferita, e agita le viscere assolate fino a farsi storia da raccontare. Cosà il paese del niente si anima, e ciascuno si scopre in corpo qualcosa da cacci re all'aria. E questo coro di confessioni buffe, di segreti svelati per iscritto, di ricordi liberati in faccia al lettore, traccia la mappa intima di una regione che va da Napoli in già . Non c'à niente a Simbari Crichi rincorre il fiato beffardo di un Sud che si guarda ristagnare, e la forza indolenzita di gente pronta ogni giorno a scavare tesori in mezzo agli scarti.
