The Celtic Society was founded in 1820 with the help of Sir Walter Scott and Colonel David Stewart of Garth, and immediately attracted support and participation from prominent Highland gentlemen; it played a significant role in the orga…nisation of the 1822 royal visit to Edinburgh. It received a royal designation from Queen Victoria in 1873 and continues to this day supporting the language and culture of the Highlands and Islands. This rare pamphlet, on the occasion of the revision of the Society?s constitution, summarises its objectives and activities with a particular emphasis on school examinations and prizes.
