Loseblattwerk. Condizione: gut. Erste Aufl. 28 Lagen bzw. B. S. J. London 1969" (Verlagstext) Bryan Stanley Johnson (* 5. Februar 1933 in London; gestorben [Freitod] 13. (Wikipedia) In deutscher Sprache. 220 pages. Klein 8° (108 x 180mm) [Text]; 120 x 193mm [Kassette].

FIRST EDITION, the 27 sections, together with the wrap-around band sealed, a touch of creasing to top corner of front section, 8vo, original box with fading to back (as commonly found), slightly rubbed at joint, a couple of tiny spots to inside of box, very good. Johnson's innovative novel eschews the fixity of a bound book in order to reflect the action of memory: as the instructions to the interior of the box-lid direct, 'Apart from the first and last sections (which are marked as such) the other twenty-five sections are intended to be read in random order'.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Szerencsétlenek [The Unfortunates], B. S. Johnson. 1972. Europa. 12mo narrow softcover. First Hungarian edition, first printing. Probably Johnson s most famous work, here in its Hungarian format which is notable for it goes against the original form; the first and later editions all follow the format containing 27 unbound sections and, aside from the first and last segment, may be read in any which way the reader chooses. Whether a serious play at experimental form or a way to attract additional publicity (probably a bit of both), Johnson s Hungarian publisher could not afford such luxuries and insisted on a regular bound paperback. This obliged Johnson to add an extra element to the book and a special introduction explaining it; essentially making do with a do-it-yourself cut-up of the last page and using the symbols present at the head of each section. This particular copy is especially scarce, being inscribed by Johnson to June Tillinghast, the wife of Tony Tillinghast, a close friend of Johnson and whose life and death inspired The Unfortunates. Condition: Good. Corners, tips and some edges rubbed, 3-4 tear to front cover along spine though the binding is holding well. Internally clean and bright throughout. A highlight of any Johnson collection. Inscribed by Author(s).
