The Handbook of Second Language Acquisition discusses research, theory, and applications specifically of second language acquisition. The book addresses issues of maturation and modularity, as well as language transfer between first and second languages, the neuropsychology of second language acquisition, research and methodological issues in the study of second language acquisition and language contact and its consequences. The Handbook of Child Language Acquisition sheds a new light on the what, why and how of the child's ability to acquire one or more languages. It includes treatments of acquisition form a variety of theoretical viewpoint and also contains overviews of the acquisition of all components of linguistic structure, as well as treating the acquisition of the sign languages of the deaf and the specific problems of bilingual acquisition.
