Excerpt from Die Senatsboten der Römischen Republik: Inaugural-Dissertation

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is an in-depth exploration of a fascinating aspect of Roman history: its diplomatic missions as told through the detailed examination of senatorial delegations. The author does not shy away from the obscurity of much of the prosopographical material, instead painting a rich picture of the Roman diplomatic process as part of the broader political, historical, and social context in which these embassies operated. The book is divided into 66 individual diplomatic missions that took place from 501 BCE to 184 BCE. Each entry is a detailed analysis of one or more senatorial delegations, often including an investigation into the backgrounds of the delegates and the contexts in which they operated. The author has also included a comprehensive list of over 350 delegates that serves not only as a resource for specialized researchers but also as a testament to the scale of the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Roman Senate. This book will be appreciated by students and researchers for its meticulous scholarship. For the general reader, it serves as an important reminder of the complex and often dangerous diplomatic negotiations that preceded Rome's rise to power.
