Condizione: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: Mängelexemplar/near mint. Journalist and Voice of German and Conservative Catholics in America, 1871-1934. This biography chronicles the professional life of Arthur Preuss, an American Catholic journalist of German descent who, in his day, was perhaps the most important Catholic journalist in America. The study depicts Preuss within the context of his age through an analysis of the sources pertinant to his life and times. These sources include forty-one volumes of Preuss's "Fortnightly Revue" as well as his numerous editorial contributions to "Die Amerika" and the "Echo". In addition, some five thousand extant pieces of Preuss's professional and private correspondence are studied. This data is contrasted and compared with information available in other sources in order to provide a sketch of the German and conservative Catholic perspective on the controversial issues of the day. Specific issues which are studied include the controversy surrounding German Catholic ethnicity and 'Americanization', the foundation of the Catholic University of America, the 'social question', or the German Catholic experience of World War I.
