Thirty-one American academics contribute 26 papers responding to ABET/EC 2000, the new set of criteria for revolutionizing undergraduate engineering programs recently set by the national accreditation commission for engineering education. Following an overview of the evolutionary history of the EC 2000 criteria origins and a sample institutional response, the text contains 23 specific responses demonstrating a variety of curricular possibilities, organized thematically into sections on effective communication, liberal education in problem formulation and solution, professional and ethical responsibility, liberal education and contemporary issues, engineering in liberal education, technology in art/aesthetics in design, integrating engineering and humanities, multidisciplinary student teams, and collaborative teaching.
