Excerpt from Standardized Reasoning Tests in Arithmetic and How to Utilize Them
The accuracy of the first measurement may be considerably increased by the use of the preliminary test shown on page 5. Through such a test, there is a reduction in certain gross sources of error, such as strangeness, misunderstanding, nervousness, etc.
The same directions, precautions, etc., should be followed in using the preliminary test as in using the regular tests, except that the pupils may be told that it is preliminary.
