On extended leave from a faculty position in the Department of Biology at the University of Northern Iowa where he specializes in science education, Weld is a frequent speaker, consultant, and writer on the national STEM scene. Formerly an award-winning high school science teacher in Mission, Texas; Kirkwood, Missouri; and Pella, Iowa; he draws inspiration for this book from the hundreds of colleagues and friends navigating the uncharted but promising waters of STEM education together. Many helped him account for the essential elements of STEM that follow.
