L'autore
Otfried Preußler stammte aus Nordböhmen, wo seine Vorfahren seit dem 15. Jahrhundert als Glasmacher im Vorland des Iser- und Riesengebirges ansässig waren. Er wurde am 20. Oktober 1923 als Sohn eines Lehrers im nordböhmischen Reichenberg geboren. Nach dem Krieg und fünf Jahren in sowjetischer Gefangenschaft, kam er im Sommer 1949 nach Oberbayern, wohin es seine Angehörigen nach der Vertreibung aus der böhmischen Heimat verschlagen hatte. Seither lebte er in Oberbayern. Er starb am 18. Februar 2013. Sein erstes Buch, "Der kleine Wassermann", schrieb Otfried Preußler 1956. Damals war er noch Lehrer an einer Volksschule in Oberbayern, und wenn seine Schüler wieder einmal besonders unruhig waren, dann erzählte er ihnen Geschichten, die er später aufschrieb und veröffentlichte. Otfried Preußler hat über 35 Bücher geschrieben, die in mehr als 50 Sprachen und über 350 Ausgaben übersetzt wurden und für die er viele Preise und Auszeichnungen erhalten hat. Die weltweite Gesamtauflage seiner Bücher beträgt rund 50 Millionen Exemplare.
