The use of solar energy through photovoltaic systems is a real alternative to conventional electricity production, but its realization in architectural terms leaves much to be desired. This book presents the technical and design requirements for photovoltaic facades and roofs, and demonstrates how these elements can be integrated into the architecture of buildings. It features clear illustrations of already existing solutions and planned models, as well as precise information on the necessary technology. Architecture in which ecological, technical and aesthetic aspects are interwoven is shown to be feasible. Othmar Humm, engineer and journalist in the field of architecture, technology and energy, has written many books and articles on this issue. Peter Toggweiler is an engineer, and is responsible for the Swiss contribution to the research programme 'Photovoltaics in Buildings' which is currently being carried out by the International Energy Agency in Paris.
