Sinossi

In this study done at St. Johns Medical College Hospital, reference ranges for biochemical parameters of liver and renal functions were determined in a Bangalore City population. Blood samples from 153 healthy subjects were obtained after taking detailed medical and physical examination. Serum was analyzed for bilirubin, total protein, albumin, liver enzymes, urea and creatinine. The results obtained were compared with the values that were currently being used. It was found that there was a shift in the reference range for all the analytes, except urea which remained the same. It was concluded that the reference ranges for each population varies and therefore pressing the need to establish reference ranges for various parameters in each clinical laboratory.
