Strength of materials problems have been classified into determinate and indeterminate problems. Determinate analysis primarily based on the equilibrium concept is well understood. The subject is introduced through response variables: force, deformation, displacement; and underlying concepts: equilibrium equation, force deformation relation, deformation displacement relation, and compatibility condition. Mechanical load, temperature variation, and support settling are equally emphasized.

Began career in 1972, as the Chief of Optimization Group, in the Indian Space Agency, India, following graduation from the Case Western Reserve University, USA. The INAST-1 satellite and its earth-station were the major projects that I handled. Returned to Glenn Research Center, NASA in 1988. Solid mechanics and optimization are my expertise.
