The main goal was to establish an economic viable film sector. Incentives managed to help increase the production volume of Dutch films, as well as the number of commercial films, but these successes were short-lived. In the end, the Dutch film sector did not become self-sufficient. Policy was focused too much on production and failed to implement measures specifically for demand. Trans-shipment incurs incremental fixed costs, and there is a minimum shipping distance for rail transport above which lower costs per km offset the incremental fixed costs. The minimum economic shipping distance for straw exceeds the biomass draw distance, and hence the prospects for rail transport are limited to cases where traffic congestion from truck transport would otherwise preclude project development. In Alberta the layout of existing rail lines precludes a centrally located wood chip plant supplied by rail, while a more versatile road system enables it by truck. A consolidated set of life cycle analysis data is used to investigate the environmental load for biomass trans-shipment from truck. The results favor train over truck. An analysis on the WTO compatibility of these Economic Partnership Agreements is included in this work. Further still is the controversial issue of trade and human rights; the discussion being whether human rights are relevant under trade law. This work addresses issues such as; the legal imperativeness of the right to food (as defined in the ICESCR) under the EPA and to what extent it has been incorporated in the current EU-EAC EPA framework negotiations. Most importantly also is the resultant impact such a trade agreement would have on the right to food in the East African society. With the help of quantitative, semiotic, and narrative research methods, the advertisements in popular women's magazines are critically analyzed regarding their cultural values, their meanings, and their constructions of femininity. In the quantitative part, around 500 advertisements are analyzed for each country. The emerging similarities and differences are the basis for a critical exploration of feminine identity representations in both societies. The emerging results reveal that despite the increasing globalization of advertisements, local representations of women's identities account for significant differences.
