This book mainly focuses on introducing recent advances in the field of image contrast enhancement in image processing.Contrast enhancement problem in digital images can be resolved using various methodologies and Histogram Equalization (HE) based techniques are widely used methods. This text book proposes a new algorithm to minimize over illumination and very much useful in medical image processing. The proposed algorithm is carefully designed to adjust the various aspects of contrast enhancement.The contrast of the multi-background image can be improved by controlling the intensities and increasing the contrast at both darker and brighter parts of the image.The objects in the darker part are visible retaining the information at the brighter part. The proposed algorithm gives visually pleasing and have a natural look with the enhanced images with a level of controllability by adjusting the gray levels from darker to the brighter part of the image. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with other methods. This book is very much helpful and useful for graduate, post graduate students and research scholars to gain the knowledge in the field of DIP.
