Altro periodo iconico di Roma parte dagli anni trenta del secolo scorso, in cui la rivoluzione sociale e culturale, la necessità di funzionalità e funzionamento sono state rappresentate da imponenti opere moderne e da grandi operazioni firmate da architetti protagonisti del cambiamento urbano e urbanistico della Capitale, tra i quali Piacentini, Quaroni, Fiorentino, Ridolfi e Moretti. Opere come la città universitaria Sapienza e i suoi istituti, i quartieri INA-CASA e il quartiere EUR raccontano il passaggio formale tra modernità e contemporaneità.
