Due to Scheggi's untimely death in 1971 at the age of 31, the project remained unfinished. These previously unpublished preparatory sketches, drawings, and notes, which were shown at the Museo Novecento in Florence, are examined in essays by Ilaria Bignotti and Bruno Corà and texts by Germana Agnetti and Cosima Scheggi, daughters of the two artists and directors of their respective archives. The concept of the project was to create a sacred place, a temple, to contain linguistic objects representing primary forms of community, subjectivity and power, linking these with the artistic and theoretical research the two artists were conducting at the time.Agnetti died 10 years after his friend and colleague. His research followed a new route but remained closely linked with that idea born in 1968, that "any work, any artistic object, any gesture is a critical reminder of reality and our existence". (Germana Agnetti).

Paperback. Condizione: New. The Paris guide is focused on describing the complexity of this European metropolis through its 20th and 21st century architecture.Following Haussmann's transformations, Paris, the most densely constructed city in Europe, expanded thanks to a flexibility based on a matrix able to absorb and integrate the directional courses of the architecture of the period. However, the complexity of the urban transformations and the changes in the Parisian architectural panorama did not erase the solid identity of the city's urban image. This book guides the reader through decades of Parisian architectural history beginning with the great names of the Modernist movement, Loos, Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. The second half of the 20th century is famous for the cultural vitality of the city reflected in the innovative architecture of the Centre George Pompidou designed by Piano and Rogers. The Pompidou Centre is both the symbol and result of the 1968 student revolution. The 1980s and 90s were defined by the forceful initiatives of President François Mitterrand, promoter and advocate of iconic projects like the Louvre Pyramid, the Musée d'Orsay renovation, the Parc de la Villette and the Arab World Institute. The present period is represented with several selected projects that have elevated the quality of certain areas on the outskirts of the urban agglomeration.

Rome is not only enriched by the works that have led it to be known as the "eternal city", or with those monuments that still preserve the stories of a strong people, such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum or Castel Sant'Angelo. It is not only the symbolic centre of Christianity thanks to St. Peter's Basilica, or the central and figurative hub of the Italian Republic because of the Palazzo del Quirinale. The history, art, and culture of Rome tell the story of a process of restoration and innovation that sees the participation of some timeless places and the birth of other contemporary community services that join those already known to the public. During 1930s, the social and cultural revolution and call for functionality and practicality are represented by impressive modern public and residential works, as well as by major operations from architectural protagonists in the urban change of the capital. Works such as the university city of Sapienza and its institutes, or the EUR district tell the story of the formal transition between modernity and contemporaneity.

The works of contemporary and established architecture, collected in five different itineraries within the volume, highlight the presence of a multitude of fragments and elements that make up the stratigraphy of the city. Venice turns out to be a laboratory for reflection on modernity to which it is necessary to turn our gaze in order to understand the complex uniqueness of a lagoon city that develops on an island. This presents itself as the city of the mind and people in that it consists entirely of pedestrian and public spaces but at the same time is traversed by water in which motor vehicles navigate. The unrepeatability of Venice makes its infinite architecture even more unprecedented and unique, giving those who visit it an unprecedented experience.

Istanbul represents a vast field for experimentation and dialogue between the wonderful examples of historical and traditional Turkish architecture and the new demands of contemporary design. In the 21st century the city of Istanbul began a new urban transformation process, aimed at becoming an important hub for trade and finance. Today, the Turkish metropolis can be defined as a megacity with the construction of new financial centres, shopping malls, and infrastructures such as airports, bridges and tourist ports. The structural transformations in society have led to a shift in the urban morphology that, in turn, has generated not only social and cultural changes, but also an identity crisis in the city itself. Within this scenario, the guide not only offers a horizontal view of contemporary architecture, but also acts as a means for analysing new architectural directions and contemporary urban development in Istanbul. As well as the itineraries that feature selected buildings, both contemporary and historic, the guide includes critical essays that provide an analysis of the history, urban planning, and the future of the city.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Curator Marc Donnadieu turns his critical gaze on Tornabuoni Art gallery's post-war masterpieces and proposes a project based around the notion of creative destruction; a way of making that led to a total renewal of art in the aftermath of the Second World War. The exhibition is articulated around a simple alphabet, where 25 works by 22 Italian and international artists are assembled in a trilingual alphabet, with each letter introducing an artist and a disruptive action to which he or she has subjected the artwork: Enrico Baj "attacks" and Alberto Burri "burns", while Arman "vandalizes" and Tancredi "zigzags". This list, which is by no means exhaustive, is merely the starting point for an infinite repertoire of iconoclastic artists and verbs. The curator also pays homage to one of Tornabuoni Art's most beloved artists: Alighiero Boetti, whose apparently playful works allow us to confront deep philosophical issues. Opening 30 years to the day since the artist's death, An alphabet of order and disorder looks outwards to the world and to a new generation confronted with its uncertainties.Text in English and French.

Published on the occasion of the monographic exhibition at the Corner of the MAXXI, this catalogue is illustrated with the earlier paintings and never-before-seen large works created especially for the museum, a dialogue between nine sets of twins and one work in which it is possible to recognise an expressive direction filtered through the lens of abstraction. In addition to the essay by the curator, the volume includes an interview with the artist, a critical text by Aurelio Picca, and a bio-bibliography. In short, the volume provides a complete portrait of Marco Tamburro: from the references to classical cinema, to the theatre and to contemporary photography, to his personal history and paintings, which combine aspects of his own life with imaginary events. His main source of inspiration is the city of Rome, consumed and crisscrossed by an infinity of trajectories, overlaid by buildings and skyscrapers.Text in English and Italian.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Catalogue of the exhibition dedicated by La Galleria Nazionale di Roma to Vasco Bendini on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, which opened in March 2022. The volume accompanies the discovery of the career of one of the major artists of the second half of the Italian 20th century, from his early training with Giorgio Morandi, up to the great Roman solo exhibitions and the Biennales of his maturity. The work of Vasco Bendini, dear to critics such as Francesco Arcangeli and Maurizio Calvesi, opens in the immediate postwar period, following an informal language in search of the volto as a universal archetype, to then focus on gesture and matter, under the influence of, among others, Jean Fautrier. The 1960s are characterised by the inclusion in the paintings of heterogeneous objects and materials, in an approach to Arte Povera and then, with actions and installations, to the Neodada way of doing things. The central objective for Bendini remains in fact the involvement of the viewer, in a fruitful dialogue necessary for the development of his poetics. A large selection of archival photos, along with essays and alleri productions of the works, is flanked by a critical anthology and unpublished writings by the Master.Text in English and Italian.

This book describes the exhibition project curated by Sonia Zampini, centred on a presentation of the work Pezzi di Pace created by the artist Felice Limosani in the Renaissance courtyard of Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni in Florence, home of the Roberto Casamonti Collection. The installation is a reflection among identities engaged in a dialogue, mirroring visions of the reciprocity between the definition of the man and of the architecture, between the individual and the universal, and revealing the harmony of shapes and contents that underlies knowledge and sharing. The first part of the volume is devoted to a discussion of the project, while the subsequent portion analyses the main works produced by the artist during his career.

A journey through time is the accompanying catalogue of the exhibition of the same name (5 April - 7 September 2025) which represents a tribute to an artistic current of historical importance, but also an expression of the commitment to culture and contemporary art that led to the birth of the Cambiano Foundation. The works of the artists on display are a reflection of the richness and variety of Abstractionism - with a particular focus on classical Abstractionism - while Andy Warhol's visual provocation still invites us to reflect on the dynamics of consumption in contemporary society. The essay by Nicola Nuti, curator of the exhibition, offers an overview of the register of Tuscan and Italian artistic participations in the decades following the post-war period, from abstract currents - which reinvented non-figurative language through the different backgrounds of each artist - to Pop art, "closer to American post-pictorial abstraction [.] than to contemporary realism" (L. Lippard, Pop Art). The works of Berti, Brunetti, Corpora, Crippa, Monnini, Montanarini, Moretti, Nuti, Rho, Scanavino, Tognetti are collected in the two sections of the volume "Opere pittoriche" and "Opere ceramiche".With this exhibition, the CAMBIO Cultural Center of Castelfiorentino inaugurates the dialogue between the temporary exhibition and works from the permanent collection, which already hosts artists such as Venturino Venturi and Gualtiero Nativi.Text in English and Italian.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Volume edited on the occasion of the exhibition at MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome from 25 October 2024 to 16 March 2025, curated by the world-renowned studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The exhibition and thus the catalogue intends to address the theme of movement not so much as a possibility for a building to move from one place to another as an internal property of architecture: buildings that change configuration, that have mobile elements, that swell or turn to accommodate more or fewer visitors. The ability to move or change like a transformer is also a recurring feature of the work of Diller and Scofidio (later DS+R), who often also used movement as a platform to connect art and architecture, combining the concepts of building and installation in an experimental (and very productive) way. In their vision, architecture eschews geo-fixity, rigidity, definition, conditioning, immediacy, passivity and stupidity. The new cornerstones of Restless Architecture are mobility, flexibility, expansion, setting, renewability, machinism and intelligence.

As with archival images, we are aware of the life that is simmering below the surface. Florence As It Is is accompanied by a previously unpublished short story by Elena Ronchi.

Senza data (Undated), an exhibition at the Stefano Bardini Museum in Florence, presents a series of works by Italian artist Luca Pignatelli painted on railway tarpaulins, wood, paper, sheet metal, and Persian carpets from the early 20th century. The painted carpets stand out immediately for their size and their link with the vast collection of carpets in the museum. Luca Pignatelli studied architectural composition during the period influenced by the theories of Aldo Rossi and the idea of the sedimentary growth of history. He is an artist able to accept the challenge of large-scale paintings, working with unusual supports on which he overlays his own selection of images, icons of collective memory like trains, planes, machines, and relics of classical culture. This catalogue includes an interview with the artist and an essay by director of the Museo Novecento in Florence.

In a completely unexpected way, Aurelio Amendola, a world-renowned photographer, goes beyond his consolidated practice of printing on paper to take up the challenge of the contemporary medium par excellence, digital, exhibiting his shots dedicated to Michelangelo on the screens of Rifugio Digitale. The gallery that hosted the exhibition draws its identity from its origin: an anti-aircraft bunker built in Florence during the Second World War to protect the neighbourhood from bombing. The redevelopment of the tunnel has given rise to a space that welcomes artistic expressions of all kinds, with a strong look towards the future and a strong predilection for everything that moves in the digital field.Antonio Natali, together with the photographer from Pistoia, selected these images, curating the exhibition and the volume, inviting us to pay attention to something completely different from the canonical iconography to which we are accustomed. In fact, we are presented with an iconic Michelangelo.

Paperback. Condizione: New. This editorial offers a thoughtful reflection on the meaning of celebrating an anniversary, questioning the value of a mere recurrence if not accompanied by critical reflection. Citing Adorno, it states that nothing holds value simply because it once did, but to forget history and memory is to deny the existence of knowledge. In the case of the magazine Area, founded in 1990, the milestone of 30 years becomes a living testimony to an era marked by profound changes in the ways we live, design, and communicate. With over 180 issues, Area has spanned two centuries, documenting the architectural debate with consistency and independence from the logic of current trends. Since 1996, when it shifted from a quarterly to a bimonthly publication, the magazine has moved its focus from object design to domestic and inhabitable space, establishing itself as a hybrid product between book and magazine. In doing so, it anticipated the decline of print as a vehicle for news, favouring slower and deeper thematic research. In a landscape dominated by historic titles such as Casabella and Domus, Area has distinguished itself through its aim to guide thought rather than simply document it, drawing inspiration from the tradition of author-directors of the past. As a tool for both personal and collective research, the magazine intertwines architecture, design, visual, and graphic arts to explore contemporary living. Using synecdoche, Area has built its own editorial and cultural identity, evident in its editorials-true intellectual autobiographies.

Beautiful Lies documents Teheran-born, New York-based artist Ali Banisadr's 2021 show in Florence in honour of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri. The "beautiful lies" beneath which truth is hidden is an expression used by Dante in describing his writing - and allegorical poetry in general - and it is perfectly suited to Banisadr's work. His powerful brushwork and strong colours go below the surface of his personal reality, revealing violence and isolation, anguish and wonder, but also memories and imagination. For this show, which was split between two venues, he was commissioned to create an installation of site-specific paintings (also called Beautiful Lies). The text is by Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento in Florence.
