The exhibition is articulated around a simple alphabet, where 25 works by 22 Italian and international artists are assembled in a trilingual alphabet, with each letter introducing an artist and a disruptive action to which he or she has subjected the artwork: Enrico Baj "attacks" and Alberto Burri "burns", while Arman "vandalizes" and Tancredi "zigzags". This list, which is by no means exhaustive, is merely the starting point for an infinite repertoire of iconoclastic artists and verbs.The curator also pays homage to one of Tornabuoni Art's most beloved artists: Alighiero Boetti, whose apparently playful works allow us to confront deep philosophical issues. Opening 30 years to the day since the artist's death, An alphabet of order and disorder looks outwards to the world and to a new generation confronted with its uncertainties.Text in English and French.

Member of Association internationale des critiques d'art (AICA) since 1997, he is a regular contributor to Art Press since 1994 and The Art Newspaper since 2023. He was awarded the Prix Special des 10 ans du Prix de l'AICA France in 2022 and Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 2004. He has curated or co-curated major monographic or thematic exhibitions devoted to painting, drawing and contemporary photography, the notion of commitment, identity processes in today's social spaces, current representations of the body, the relationship between art and architecture between art and architecture, as well as to relations between photography and art brut. The Pinault Collection at Palazzo Grassi has in the past mounted exhibitions of the work of Sigmar Polke, Damien Hirst and Urs Fischer in its elegant interiors along the Grand Canal in Venice. It was thus the appropriate venue for this survey of Luc Tuymans' work. Quiet, restrained and at times unsettling, his works engage with questions of history and its representation and with everyday subject matter in an unfamiliar and eerie light. Painted from preexisting imagery, they often appear slightly out-of-focus and sparsely colored, like third-degree abstractions from reality. Whereas earlier works were based on magazine pictures, drawings, television footage and Polaroids, recent source images include material accessed online and the artist's own iPhone photos, printed out and sometimes rephotographed several times.
