Ranjita Biswas is an independent journalist, fiction and travel writer, and translator. She contributes to national and international publications on gender issues, development, health, film, travel, and art and culture. Ranjita is an award winning translator of fiction and has won KATHA translation awards several times which have featured in their collections. She has also to her credit five published works in translation. Among the author's non-fiction published works is the coffee table book, Brahmaputra and the Assam Valley. Ranjita is also an award winning writer of children's fiction, her most recent work being Music of the Hills, an adventure story for young adults. Folktales from Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh is her collection of retold stories from the rich folktale tradition of North East India.
