Quarto [7.50 tall x 6.00 wide]. Collates complete [8], 628, [24]p. A good, sound copy of this work, being volume eight in the monumental 12 volumes set of commentaries upon the book of Job. With some minor marks or light reading wear commensurate with age else a sound, complete copy. Clean in the main, with some intermittent patches of foxed leaves at the beginning else clean and solid in the main. Highly praised by Charles Spurgeon in his Commenting & Commentaries . Caryl must have inherited the patience of Job to have completed his stupendous task. It would be a mistake to suppose that he is at all prolix or redundant; he is only full. In the course of his expounding he has illustrated a very large portion of the whole Bible with great clearness and power. He is deeply devotional and spiritual. He gives us much, but none too much. His work can scarcely be superseded or surpassed . Bound in an attractive recent half leather binding with clothbound boards. Raised bands, blind lines and two gilt lettered labels to the spine.
