Spine dulled with rubbed gilt title. Original yellow endpapers. Inner hinges carefully strengthened. This tome begins with a very useful 8 page index! 52 weekly papers; Jan 5, to Dec 28, 1878 , pagination is continious. Clean text throughout (just a couple of small blemishes). Articles include: Consecration of the Temple Bar Lodge, No. 1728 (there are reports on the consecration of 31 craft lodges); A note on the safe arrival of Cleopatra's needle; Obituary. Bro. Dr. J. V. Worthington, P.M. 220 (in all there are 57 obituaries); The New Grand Officers; An Advert for The Ocarina. The New Musical Instrument.; An Advert and report for the Lauch of the Masonic Life-Boat (Albert Edward) at Clacton-on-Sea; Provincial Grand Lodge Of Suffolk; etc. ** ". By the 1850s publishers had rapid and reliable access to the whole country, in addition, time spent travelling by rail created a demand for material to read. The growing number of freemasons were part of an expanding middle class who travelled and read, and these factors help to explain why, within three years of each other, two new, weekly masonic newspapers were launched, The freemason in 1869, and The freemasons’ chronicle in 1872. It is also surely no coincidence that the first weekly masonic publications were launched after the removal of the last of the stamp and paper taxes in 1855 and 1861 respectively, commonly referred to as the taxes on knowledge. As Brake points out, after these taxes were abolished there was a rise in daily and weekly serials. The newspaper reported freemasons’ involvement in national events, for example in the issue for the 27th October 1877, there is a notice concerning the Freemasons Indian Famine Fund. The regular column, ‘Masonic and general tidings’ always tended to include items of general interest such as short reviews of good restaurants in London and details of the Lord Mayor’s show. By the 1880s the newspaper had a special column which reviewed the plays on in the London theatres. A further indication of the leisure activities and interests of those who read the newspaper. The newspaper always included reports of lodge meetings, with a section specifically for London lodges. These reports often give a detailed account of an event or a meeting, listing individuals who attended and can be a very useful source of information about London freemasons and masonic life. Similarly the obituaries, some of which are very detailed and include pictures, provide insight into an aspect of a man’s life which in many cases has remained hidden. Between 1873 and 1885 the Rev. Adolphus Frederic Alexander Woodford acted as editor. Woodford was a formidable masonic scholar and drew around him some of the great masonic scholars of the time. As a result articles by such men began to appear in the newspapers pages and helped to ignite a lively debate about the accepted views of masonic history. The newspaper was reflecting the interests and concerns of a growing number of freemasons who were believed in a more disciplined and erudite approach to masonic history. In 1886, a year after Woodford stepped down as editor, Quatuor Coronati Lodge, No. 2076 was formed with the aim of being the premier research Lodge and Woodford was one of its founding members. Everything has been described as accurately as possible. All books have been collated and checked and any defects are defined. However should you be dissatisfied with any item you may return it within 10 days for a full refund.
PAYMENT
We accept payment by credit card; i.e.: Mastercard, VISA, Switch or Maestro. If you wish to pay by cheque, the payment needs to be in GBP(£)- UK Sterling. If payment is in any other currency an extra £12.00 needs to be added to the list price to cover our Bank's conversion charges.
POSTAGE
Postage and insurance will be at cost and will be added to the invoice.
INSPECTION
We understand that customers may wish to inspect items before purchasing. This may be done at our Bookroom at a mutually convenient time. However, may we also emphasise; that in the unlikely event that you are not entirely satisfied with you purchase (for any reason what so ever), you may return the book(s)immediately for a full refund of the list price. We only ask you to notify us of your intentions within two days of receipt.

Il periodo di recesso scade dopo 14 giorni dal giorno in cui tu o una terza parte, diversa dal vettore e da te indicata, acquisisce il possesso fisico dell'ultimo bene o dell'ultimo lotto o pezzo.
Per esercitare il diritto di recesso, compila e invia elettronicamente una dichiarazione esplicita sul nostro sito Web, alla voce “I miei acquisti” nella sezione “Mio account”. Ti comunicheremo senza indugio una conferma di ricezione di tale recesso su un supporto durevole (ad es. via e-mail).
Per rispettare il termine di recesso, è sufficiente inviare la comunicazione relativa all'esercizio del diritto di recesso prima della scadenza del periodo di recesso stesso.
Effetti del recesso
In caso di recesso dal presente contratto, ti rimborseremo tutti i pagamenti ricevuti, compresi i costi di spedizione (ad eccezione dei costi supplementari derivanti dalla tua eventuale scelta di un tipo di spedizione diverso dal tipo meno costoso di consegna standard da noi offerto).
Potremo effettuare una detrazione dal rimborso per la perdita di valore dei beni forniti, qualora tale perdita sia il risultato di una manipolazione non necessaria da parte tua.
Eseguiremo il rimborso senza indebito ritardo e non oltre 14 giorni dal giorno in cui saremo informati della tua decisione di recedere dal presente contratto.
Il rimborso sarà effettuato utilizzando lo stesso mezzo di pagamento da te usato per la transazione iniziale, salvo che tu non abbia espressamente concordato altrimenti; in ogni caso, non dovrai sostenere alcun costo quale conseguenza di tale rimborso.
Possiamo trattenere il rimborso finché non avremo ricevuto i beni oppure finché non avrai fornito la prova di averli rispediti, a seconda di quale condizione si verifichi per prima.
Dovrai rispedire i beni o consegnarli a CHILTON BOOKS, SUDBURY, United Kingdom, +44 1787373725, senza indebito ritardo e, in ogni caso, entro 14 giorni dal giorno in cui ci hai comunicato la tua volontà di recedere dal presente contratto. Il termine è rispettato se rispedisci i beni prima della scadenza del periodo di 14 giorni. I costi diretti della restituzione dei beni saranno a tuo carico. Sei responsabile solo della diminuzione del valore dei beni risultante da una manipolazione diversa da quella necessaria per stabilire la natura, le caratteristiche e il funzionamento dei beni stessi.
Eccezioni al diritto di recesso
Il diritto di recesso non si applica a:
- La fornitura di giornali, periodici o riviste ad eccezione dei contratti di abbonamento; e
- La fornitura di contenuto digitale non fornito su un supporto materiale (ad es. su un CD o DVD), se al momento dell'invio dell'ordine hai accettato l'inizio dell'esecuzione e hai riconosciuto che non avresti potuto recedere una volta iniziata l'esecuzione.
