Two of George Macaulay Trevelyan works lauding the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi, illustrated copies in their original dust wrapper. Each volume is in their original very scarce unclipped dust wrapper. Two historical studies on Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian general, revolutionary, and republication. He helped to unify Italy, and is considered to be one of Italy's "fathers of the fatherland". He was an international figurehead for national independence and republican ideals, and was admired by the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, and Charles Dickens.'Garibaldi and the Thousand', the fifth impression. Illustrated with a frontispiece, three folding maps, and twenty-six plates. Two pages of adverts to the rear. Collated, complete.'Garibaldi and the Making of Italy', the fourth impression. Illustrated with a frontispiece, four folding maps, and thirty-one plates. Two pages of adverts to the rear. Collated, complete.By George Macaulay Trevelyan. He also wrote another work on Garibaldi, 'Garibaldi's Defence of the Roman Republic'. In his trilogy on Garibaldi he depicted him as a hero who stood for British ideals of liberty. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Fading to the head of the spines. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines. Only a few light marks to the cloth. Spots to the fore edges. Dust wrappers are worn, with chips and small tears, 'Thousand' rear wrap is detached from the spine. Most of the spine is detached from both of the wraps, 'Making of Italy' front wrap is detached from the spine. Heavier loss to the head and tail of the spines. Wraps are age-toned with light handling marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Very Good Indeed.…
