Octavo, 286 pages plus 2 double-page maps printed in red and black (reproducing the endpaper maps from the original edition) and 13 colour plates (all artwork by the author, eight of the plates coloured later by H.E. Riddett). Black cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, with a large gilt, silver and red illustration of a dragon on the front cover (from a design by the author); all edges speckled green; spine slightly marked and rubbed (affecting the gilt lettering at the foot); gift inscription on the front free endpaper; an excellent copy (lacking the original box).
