Archive concerning research material and letters from contributors for 'The M.G. Log'. First published in 1993 by Souvenir Press. Editorial consultant: Jean Cook. American edition published by Greenwich Editions in 1997. Contributors were Peter Haining (Octagonal Fever), Jean Cook (Cecil Kimber's daughter), Cyril Mellor (Vintage MG's), Barry Foster (Racer of Classic MG's), David Saunders (The Immortal 'T' type MG), Geoff Shirt (MGB - World's Most Popular Sports Car), Anna Guerrier (The MG Fast Ladies) and Mike Allison (Restoring MG's). A couple of pages of Haining's handwritten notes. Five typescripts of different versions varying in length (one or two with duplicated pages) of Haining's piece, with corrections. Two typescripts (one incomplete) of Jean Cook's piece on her father Cecil Kimber, with corrections, plus a further heavily corrected paragraph about Cecil Kimber. Draft typescript of Mike Allison's contribution. pp. 9. with corrections. Typed description of M.G. models. Typed Contents page. Typed outline for photographs for the M.G. Log. pp. 9. Typed outline of content. pp. 6. Both with a few corrections. Handwritten photocopy of '"Old Number One" and the Vintage Years' by Cyril Mellor. pp. 16 (one page article included). Two typed lists of books about cars. pp. 10. 10 photographs of MGs, Jean Cook features in several of them, 5 slides, 3 transparencies all of MGs. Accompanied by photocopies of photographs. Letters dating from 1992 include typed signed letters and in some cases a photocopy of the letter has been attached and about 15 photocopies of Haining's letters introducing himself and outlining the content of the book and what is required. Typed blurb for the book from Haining to Tessa Harrow at Souvenir Press. Typed signed letters to Haining from Anna Guerrier, racing driver, Jean Cook, daughter of Cecil Kimber, the inventor of the first M.G. (4 letters, full of assistance), Ernest Hecht at Souvenir Press confirming Haining's contract, Philip Jennings, historian of the Early MG Society, Cyril Mellor of 14/40 fame, Mike Allison, M.G. specialist, Don Hayter, Bob Patterick, an old friend who drove MGs, and Geoff Shirt, his letter includes his photocopied article on the 5th Kimber Birthday Run. Jennings and Hayter declined to contribute to the book. Other material includes a returned cheque for a back issue of Classic Cars not available and a page from Thoroughbred & Classic Cars. Letters dating from 1993 include two lengthy handwritten letters to Haining from David Saunders, editor of the T Register Yearbook for the MG Car Club with Haining's photocopied replies and his photocopied introductory letter (dated December 1992). Four photocopied articles also attached. Fax from Haining to Ernest Hecht about payment. Photocopy of Haining's introductory letter to Glynn Guisti and a photcopy of a letter to Cyril Mellor. Typed signed letter to Haining from Jean Cook with handwritten message about the irreplaceable photographs she has sent him. Typed signed letter to Haining from Richard Monk, the MG Owners Club General Manager, enclosing transparencies. Typed signed letter to Haining from Jean Cook enclosing the final draft of her piece with a handwritten message at the end. Typed signed letter to Haining from Cyril Mellor. A handwritten letter to Jean Cook from Edith Pargeter (Ellis Peters) the detective author who admits she doesn't drive, handwritten at top 'To Peter with compliments Dennis.' Typed signed letter to Haining from The Souvenir Press enclosing a questionnaire from Jean Cook which is present. Handwritten letter to Anna [Guerrier] from Liz [Wigg] at Rivers Fletcher Motor Racing enclosing photographs. Handwritten letters to Haining from Jean Cook and David Saunders and a handwritten card from Cyril Mellor. Fax from Tessa Harrow. Typed signed letter from Haining.
