A little wear to extremities and edges, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout by colour and black and white drawings, paintings, photographs and facsimiles, including frontispiece. Pictorial endpapers. A detailed and very well illustrated world history of fighting vessels. It includes contemporary prints, and paintings as well as many original plans and coloured drawings commissioned for the work. Captain Donald Macintyre (1904-81) was a successful convoy escort commander in the Second World War and subsequently became a prolific naval historian.
