Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

A very scarce, illustrated microscopy guide from Joseph Henry Wythe. Very scarce. Early edition. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Illustrated with a frontispiece and further figures in the text. An insightful microscopy handbook for amateurs, students and professionals alike, featuring chapters such as "The History and Importance of Microscopic Investigation", "How to Use the Microscope" and "On Procuring Objects for the Microscope". Written by Manchester-born, Philadelphia-raised surgeon, preacher and microscopist Joseph Henry Wythes, a leading voice in the San Francisco Microscopical Society and author of a range of diverse works, including Easy Lessons in Vegetable Biology and The Science of Life. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Previous seller's or binder's stamp of B. Dawson (Montreal) to the front paste down. Ex-libris copy with the McGill University bookplate to the front paste down and Dalhousie University W. K. Kellog Health Sciences Library plate to the face page. Faint stamp to the title page, and archival markings to the dedication page. Moderate loss of paper and marking to the rear paste down. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth, particularly to the spine head, more prominent fading and a few light marks and creases. Internally, firmly bound. Tide mark affecting the fore edge to the first half of the text, otherwise generally bright and clean with the occasional spot, more common to the first and last few pages, where the endpapers are also a little discoloured.
