'In 1694 Wooton published Reflections Upon Ancient and Modern Learning, a contribution on the side of the moderns to the controversy between Sir William Temple and Monsieur Perrault. Unlike most controversial writings it is chiefly devoted to the clear statement of facts, and may be still read as the best summary of the discoveries in nature and physical science up to its date.'- DNB. pp. [xxxii],359,[1]. A supplement was added in 1698, not present here. A choice copy bound in contemporary calf, the spine with raised bands & the boards with borders with floral designs to the corners, all in blind. Small area of loss of leather to upper board outer-margin, corners slighty bumped, but otherwise VG. [Wing W3658; Lowndes 2998; Allibone 2854; DNB XXI, 976].
