A calf-bound copy of 'Holy Dying', the second of two classic Christian devotion books by Jeremy Taylor. Very scarce to find copies from this publisher.In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards.Often seen together with its counterpart 'Holy Living', 'Holy Dying' is meant to instruct the reader in the "means and instruments" of preparing for a blessed death. It was also seen as the "artistic climax" of a consolatory death literature tradition that had begun with Ars moriendiin the 15th century.Originally published in 1650 and 1651, respectively.Written by cleric of the Church of England, Jeremy Taylor, who is sometimes referred to as the "Shakespeare of Divines" and achieved fame as an author during the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards.Externally, with rubbing to the extremities, most notably to the spine, and scuffs to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots to the endpapers. Very Good.…
