Volume 2 (only), quarter-leather binding with marbed sides, raised bands and gilt to spine, maps, b&w plates, including 2 folding city plans, pp (vi), 390, new endpapers. Binding by Cottage Bindery of Bath. Previous owner's small ink stamp blank prelim page, p. 1, p. 101, otherwise very clean including plates. Near-fine condition. Volume 2 of 2. Travels of the French botanist in Greece, Constatinople, the coasts of the Black Sea, Armenia, and Georgia, first published in 1718. Beautifully illustrated with engraved plates of plants, animals, cities and people. Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656 - 1708) is noted for producing a system of plant classification and nomenclature in the 1690s.
