pp. 306-325. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author to W. Haase. - Author's name and article's title handwritten on cover, otherwise very good and clean. - From the text: Italiae fines promovit bellica virtus Et novus in nostra funditur urbe decor. This couplet on a building in the very centre of renaissance Rome expresses the spirit of a recent age of intense classical revival. It conducted excavation and restoration, as well as lavish celebrations of the anniversaries of Virgil, Horace and Augustus. After the conquest of Ethiopia and proclamation of the restored empire in 1936, the Duce actively pursued the parallel with the first emperor, whose memory he glorified with a mass of propaganda.
