Considerable well aged annotation in a neat hand on margins in black ink which in our opinion enhances the tome. Small holes in vellum covers. Occasional wear and staining and creases but good overall. Ex priory lib. Extremely rare.…COPAC only lists a 1598 issue printed in Lyon. We have been unable to locate any copy anywhere of this third volume of the first edition. The third of three volumes of the first edition issued by Plantin in 1577-1579, of the collection of homilies on each day of the year by the Spanish ascetic theologian Luis of Grenada, who became a Dominican at Grenada in 1525 and studied in Valladolid from 1529 till 1534. From 1534 till 1545, he was in a convent near Cordua where he met the famous Juan of Avila. He was appointed provincial of this order for the Portuguese province in 1556. His works have had a major influence on Charles Borromée and François de Salles, who wrote in 1603 to a bishop: 'Ayez Grenade tout entier, et que ce soit votre second bréviaire; il dressera votre esprit à l'amour de la vraie dévotion et à tous les exercices spirituels qui vous sont nécessaires'. The vols. were reprinted in 1581, 1583-1584 and 1586-1588. Each volume was sold separately, which explains why there are no complete copies known of the whole edition. Sorgeloos in his catalogue wrote: 'There is only one known copy of the third volume of the reprint (VOET, n. 1597 III (the edition of 1588)), in MPM (Plantin-Moretus Museum), but it is incomplete'. We have been unable to locate any copy anywhere of this third volume of the first edition. from.

La fluidez de su lenguaje y el vocabulario empleado, no ya el referido al mundo natural y a las actividades de los oficios espectacular en la primera parte, sino especialmente el de uso corriente, hicieron que los autores del Diccionario de autoridades acudiesen a él una y otra vez tomándolo como fuente, llegando a compararle cen su fluidez retórica con Cicerón.
