Softcover. 1st edition. 98, [4] p., 121 l.; 18.5 cm. Text signed [A]-2D4 2E1 (incl J, V and W) -- not in Darlow & Moule; Herbert 2009, Chamberlin 560-61 [title continues] and other old copies of the original Greek, with an apology for Bible truths and exposition of men's dogmas, by John August Richter, late a missionary of the Berlin Mission, Queensland. New Zealand. -- At top of cover: Bishop of Nelson (1866-91: Andrew Burn Suter), with his pencil markings. -- '.the sacred writings of the New Testament. .have suffered greatly. .by copying and recopying. .to suit the whims of persons biassed by opinions, or dogmas of their own. It was then that Erasmus, in 1516, and in 1550, Stephens, formed a Greek testament from this polluted original' (1) -- 'Sabbatarians say that the Sabbath existed and was establi shed by God Himself at the time of the creation, before the ceremonial law existed, and for this cause is in full force and binding through all the dispensations. We will show that this assertion goes for nothing, and has no scriptural basis whatever to stand upon.' (89) -- 'We have no objection against the dogma that Christ reigns in the heart of the believer. .but this. .is only a preparing, a schooling during this probatory life for the future Kingdom, and does by no means constitute Christ's reign over the nations of the earth. .We, in our revision, have distinguished between these two different reigns of Christ, the former by the government of God, or government of heaven, the latter, that is Christ's personal reign on earth, by the Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of Heaven. .We who believe the scriptures do not find one single contradiction in it, and neither do we find the least difficulty as to the literal fulfilment of prophecy' (93-94) Omits John 8,1-11.
