Mathy, Karl (1807 Mannheim - 1868 Karlsruhe). Deutscher Staatsmann und Politiker, Buchhändler. Studium der Rechts- und Kameralwissenschaften, Mitglied der badischen Abgeordnetenkammer, schloß sich der liberalen Opposition an, für die er ein verbessertes Verfassungsrecht erstritt. Ab 1841 Tätigkeit als Publizist, ab 1848 bad. Staatsrath, 1849 Entlassung aus allen staatl. Ämtern, Rückkehr in die Bassermann'sche Buchhandlung in Mannheim in welcher er bis 1854 blieb, danach Wechsel zu verschiedenen Banken in Gotha und Leipzig.
