With full-page frontispiece, decorated title page…, 70 plates of Auriol's designs beautifully printed (rectos only) in red and olive green inks on laid paper. George Auriol was a French poet, songwriter, graphic designer, type designer, and Art Nouveau artist. He worked in many media and created illustrations for the covers of magazines, books, and sheet music, as well as other types of work such as monograms and trademarks. After he arrived in Paris in 1883, Auriol was introduced to typography and book design by Eugène Grasset and became particularly interested in the revival of historical type styles. Appointed by Georges Peignot, he created his signature typeface Auriol inspired by the Art Nouveau movement for the G. Peignot & Fils foundry, which was used in the work of Francis Thibaudeau and other publishers of the period. Auriol was a member of French bohemian culture, a denizen of the Chat Noir ("Black Cat Café") and long a friend of Erik Satie.

Ecrivain, illustrateur, graveur, typographe également, George Auriol a été un des grands acteurs du renouveau de l'estampe à la fin du XIXe siècle. Il commença sa carrière au Chat Noir, la revue parisienne très en vogue au début des années 1880. Il appartient avec son ami Henri Rivière (1864-1951) à cette génération de graveurs japonisants. Il mit à la mode le monogramme et le cachet personnalisé, comme l'illustre cette lettre, écrite sur un fin papier, et portant en haut à gauche un monogramme orange représentant peut-être des pétales d'iris stylisés. Le docteur Maurice Castets, landais, possédait dans la petite commune de Mées près de Dax, la Maison des Glycines, qui fut un haut lieu de rencontre d'artistes, peintres ou musiciens.
