Philosoph. 1814 Professor für Philosophie an der Ècole normale in Paris, später Professor für Philosophie an der Sorbonne und Direktor der École normale. Zeitweilig Minister des öffentl. Unterrichts. Pair von Frankreich. Staatsrat. Mehrere Reisen durch Deutschland hier suchte er die Bekanntschaft von Hegel, Schelling und Goethe. 1825 Aufenthalt in Berlin, wo er auch zu 6 Monaten Gefängnis verurteilt wurde).
