Sur Maurice Muret, voici la notice du Dictionnaire His…torique de la Suisse : études de lettres à Lausanne (licence en 1893), en Allemagne et à Paris. Rédacteur au Journal des Débats à Paris (1895), Muret publie en 1901 L'esprit juif, aux thèses "discrètement" antisémites. Il contribue à diffuser la littérature allemande et italienne en France. Fin 1909, Edouard Secretan l'appelle à la Gazette de Lausanne. Anti-dreyfusard, lecteur de Charles Maurras et de l'Action française, homme d'ordre, Muret fait prendre un net virage à droite à la rubrique étrangère du journal. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, il est ardemment francophile et dénonce la responsabilité des Allemands dans l'éclatement du conflit (L'orgueil allemand, 1915; L'évolution belliqueuse de Guillaume II, 1917). Il cesse sa collaboration avec la Gazette en 1940, à la suite d'une profonde divergence de vue avec la rédaction. Défenseur des élites et de la hiérarchie (Grandeur des élites, 1939), Muret publie encore en 1943 France héroïque, dont les héros sont Vercingétorix, saint Louis, Henri IV, Turenne, Joffre et le maréchal Pétain de juin 1940. Légion d'honneur (1920). Envoi soigné. Signé par l'auteur.
