Very good in slightly spine-faded dust-wrapper. A reprint of the revised second edition of 1891, including the catalogue of Greener's shotguns and equipment at the rear. William Wellington Greener lived through the era which saw the development of the bolt-action rifle and the breech-loading shotgun in their modern forms. Greener "devoted himself completely to the development and improvement of the modern breech loading gun. He was quick to recognise, adopt and promote the most up-to-date gunmaking practices. Bold, resourceful, self-opinionated to the point of arrogance in all his writings, W.W. Greener left an indelible imprint on the British gun trade. Guns bearing his firm's name are strong, stylish, well made and distinctive. His literary career outstripped that of his father and such was the popularity of his books most, it must be said, unashamedly advertising Greener wares, that more than one was produced in nine editions." Chapters include: The gun: Historical; Descriptive; Analytical; Technical; Specifical; Critical; Practical. Ammunition and accessories: Gunpowders; Shot; Cartridge cases and wadding; Gun cases and implements. Trap shooting: Live bird shooting; Inanimate targets. Appendix: 'Sterling' steel gun barrels; The shot counting trowel; The 'Giffard' gun. .

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. 81-107 pages with map and cited references. Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 1/4") bound in original publisher's wrappers. Volume 62, number 1. First edition. The Feast of the Dead had a brief career in the upper Great Lakes region. The ceremony was not continued for long after the establishment of French missions and trading stations at Sault Ste. Marie and in nearby locales during the seventh decade of the 17th century, and it would be difficult to find any traces of the communal aspects of the Feast in the mortuary customs of the Chippewa descendants of those peoples today. But certain practices involved in the Feast of the Dead of the 17th century reflect the sociopolitical and economic life of the participants, and what insights are afforded are relevant to Chippewa history. Condition: Spine sunned, old institutional stamp to content page, corners bumped else very good.

This paper is concerned with culture-historical inferences from Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian) linguistics. There are numerous kinds of linguistic information which can be relevant to culture-historical problems, but that of the greatest interest in the first instance is the classification of the languages involved. In the case of Austronesian, of course, we are dealing with a single language family, and therefore the problem of classification becomes that of subgrouping. Most of the discussion of specific culture-historical points will be in terms of Austronesian subgroups. Condition: Spine sunned, previous owner's name to front wrapper, corners bumped else very good.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. George W. Lambert (illustratore). Stingaree by E. W. Hornung - Adventure Novel about a Gentleman Outlaw in the Australian Bush. Author of the Raffles Books. American Reprint Published in 1908 by Charles Scribner's Sons. Hardcover Format. English author Ernest William Hornung is mostly remembered as the creator of the exciting detective series featuring the wily Raffles, a gentleman thief. Hornung was a prolific author, whose works were admired by the likes of Rudyard Kipling and Arthur Conan Doyle. In fact, Hornung married Doyle's sister, Constance. Hornung set quite a few of his stories in the Australian outback, and "Stingaree" is one of those. It also appeared as a play. Stingaree is a gentleman outlaw - a stagecoach hold-up man - but he maintains a certain demeanor which reflects a developed sense of style, ego - and ethics, despite his dubious choice of career. The book is illustrated by artist George W. Lambert. This handsome hardcover is the Charles Scribner's Sons 1908 reprint. TITLE : Stingaree. AUTHOR : E. W. Hornung (Ernest William Hornung , 1866 - 1921) ILLUSTRATOR : George W. Lambert. IMPRINT : Charles Scribner's Sons. PLACE : New York DATE : 1908. EDITION : American Reprint PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION : Trade hardcover; contains seven monochrome plate illustrations, including frontispiece; 279 pages; approximately 5 1/4" x 7 1/2', cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and embellishment. The cloth is a finely ribbed maroon; top text-block edge gilt. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book with moderate wear that remains clean and serviceable, with the following attributes and imperfections and noted: EXTERIOR - Spine extremities are compressed; head of spine is slightly frayed; gilt title and embellishment are bright. Board surfaces are mildly rubbed; there is just a touch of scuff to the rear board; top edge gilt is mildly rubbed, but basically still bright. BINDING - Solid. No leaves are detached or loose. INTERIOR - Frontispiece lacks tissue guard; A few of the leaf edges have tears where the first reader separated the leaves somewhat carelessly. I've shown a picture of the most egregious tear above with a magnified section, showing clearly the loss to that leaf edge. (The reader was a little too impatient to keep reading!) This is the only tear I spotted with such loss, however there are a few closed tears on other leaves. For the most part the interior is clean and unmarked.
