Wraps. Condizione: Good. Pale yellow printed wraps, side stapled and bound with cloth tape. 56 leaves, printed on single sides only. Apparently issued for private circulation. A journal issued by the Institute of Experimental Method, an institute that failed to register when doing internet searches. But, we are also not prone to clicking beyond the first page. That said, it appears to have been a collaborative effort between philosophers, scientists and educators who believed in experimentalism. Its editors were Edgar A. Singer Jr., C.W. Churchman and R.L. Ackoff. This issue includes: "The Methodology of Toxicological Research," by Willard Machle; "Notes on the Definition of Experiment," by Malcolm G. Preston; "Philosophy of Experiment," by Edgar A. Singer Jr. (reprinted from another journal); "What Should the Engineer Know," by Sebastian Littauer; "Esthetics and Music," by John S. Adams, Jr.; "Operational Defining," by C.W. Churchman and R.L. Ackoff. Provenance: this came from a collection of books where some were owned by mathematician James Andrew Clarkson. GOOD condition. Some soiling and smudging to the covers. General fading. Minor edgewear. Faint foxing to the spine. Rear cover offset and toned.

Black Boards. Condizione: Poor. No Jacket. J. A. Paine (illustratore). Fifth Edition. Edge and corner wear; scuffed and scratched; corners are bumped and rubbed; shelf worn; spine is split with the front and rear boards separated as a result; interior foldout pages are split and detached in several places, but still complete; some chipping of the pages at the corners and edges; overall still a marvelous rare copy! Black boards quarterbound by leather (with faded, bumped and bruised leather corners as well) with gilt and black lettering on the front board. Very very rare and hard-to-find title! One of twenty seven thousand! "The author is fully aware of the difficulties and uncertainties of any system of Chronology extant. After mature deliberation and advice, it is deemed prudent and better to base this work upon the accepted system of 'Archbishop Usher,' upon which a large majority of all our histories and chronological dates are founded. To disturb this system would produce great confusion, with no good results, as the general outlines of history and the relation of one period to another, can be as correctly obtained upon this system, as upon any other, and hinders no one from extending the stream of time back, to suit the chronology of the Septuagint; the claims of the Vedas and Puranas of India; or the fabulous uncertainties of Chinese tradition." Sebastian Cabot Adams (1825 - 1898) was an American writer, historian, Presbyterian minister, and politician. He was a brother-in-law of U.S. Senator George W. McBride. He is remembered as one of Salem's most honored citizens, an inspiring minister, teacher, and businessman. When he was twelve years old, he moved to Oregon, where he taught school (1852-54), and eventually opened his own school which became Linfield College. He also worked as a preacher, surveyor, county clerk, and State Senator while living in Yamhill County, Oregon. He was an avid historian, spending years compiling his Adams Synchronological Chart or Map of History. Adams Synchronological Chart or Map of History, originally published as Chronological Chart of Ancient, Modern and Biblical History is a wall-chart which graphically depicts a Biblical genealogy alongside a timeline composed of historic sources from the history of humanity from 4004 BC to modern times. In the chart, the stream of time is represented by a long black flowing line, where every hundred years are marked by upright black pillars, while red lines mark the decades. Nations and kingdoms are represented by parallel streams each brought into the same divisions of time. When conquered or absorbed into another government, its stream terminates. These nation streams are segmented into different colors, indicating the reign of a particular ruler or government, and growing wider or thinner in accordance to historical context. Some divide to indicate a split in the nation and indicate the independence of a state, or flow into others to illustrate its conquest, invasion, or acquisition by another nation. Stated Third Edition. FORN-SHELF-0700-UPSTAIRS-XX-2602-HK3230.
