Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. For the first time, ALAIA / GRES beyond fashion brings together 60 designs by Madame Gres and Azzedine Alaia.Determined to a lifetime of seclusion spent entirely in their ateliers, Madame Gres saw herself as a sculptor. Azzedine Alaia studied sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Tunis. This shared passion for sculpture was kept intact through their journey in the fashion system to which they dedicated themselves with such singularity and success. While there is no evidence that the two couturiers ever crossed paths, their creations undoubtedly did. Apostles of a certain form of simplicity, the seemingly simple creations of Gres and Alaia hide an inherent complexity in their cut and design. United by their formal principles, their cutting techniques and the harmonious combinations of fabric and colors they commonly embraced, the clothes by both couturiers invite readers to a lesson beyond fashion. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This publication brings together the works of the Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata(1934-1991) and the creations of the great couturier Azzedine Alaia. Fashion designer Azzedine Alaia was a fervent admirer of Shiro Kuramata, even organizing an exhibition of his work at the Fondation Alaia in 2005. Kuramata's furniture designs are replete with both the fascinating history of Japanese decorative arts and the modern eagerness for Japanese structural simplicity akin to the dogma of "form follows function". Now, the Fondation Alaia presents 23 of Kuramata's works alongside 20 of Alaia's haute couture creations, creating a synthesis of forms and materials. The lurex knit of a simple gown responds to the knitted metal mesh of a chair, while the transparent acrylic of a shelf unit echoes the feather-light muslin of a runwayreader creation. Each imbued with a great sense of lightness, the pieces showcased here represent both artist's shared interest in abstraction.
