Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Reprint. In the thirteenth century, when ships from the Cinque Ports ventured all along the coasts of Europe, even into the pirate-infested Mediteranean, Rye was at the height of its prosperity and importance. The Ryers who, as Brethren of the Ports, were traditional Keepers of the Keys of England, staunchly upheld their ancient rights and privileges, and fought for the side which, to them, stood for justice and freedom. But this book is realy the story of one of Rye's most famous captains, Garth Aylwin, and his love for Rosamund, daughter of Roger Farr, Baliff of Rye. Slight foxing to edge. Slight mark to front cloth. Slight wear and tear to D/J.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'The Keys of England' is a sweeping historical adventure set against the rugged backdrop of the English coastline during the medieval era. Written by W. Victor Cook, the narrative follows a tale of intrigue, loyalty, and the defense of the realm through the legendary Cinque Ports. As the strategic 'keys' to the kingdom's safety, these coastal towns become the stage for a dramatic struggle where the fate of the nation hangs in the balance. The story captures the essence of early 20th-century historical romance, blending atmospheric descriptions of the English landscape with a fast-paced plot involving high stakes and chivalry. Cook masterfully weaves together elements of maritime life and political tension, providing readers with a vivid window into a bygone age of sail and sword. With its focus on the guardianship of the English Channel and the bravery of those tasked with its protection, 'The Keys of England' remains a compelling example of classic historical fiction. This work offers an engaging exploration of national identity and the timeless themes of duty and courage. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
