Les bibliographes (Cordier, Bib. sinica, p. 2130 ; Numa Broc, Asie, pp. 140-141) ne nous apprennent rien sur l'auteur, dont on ignore jusqu'au prénom. Homme du Second Empire, il est fasciné par la modernité et la vitesse (la distance qu'il parcourt en moins d'un an est impressionnante) et fort admiratif de la civilisation britanique et de la colonisation anglaise. Son ouvrage fourmille de renseignements utiles au voyageur (prix et durée des transports, description des hôtels.) et de descriptions pittoresques. Très bel exemplaire, la reliure étant lég. frottée mais très solide, l'intérieur très frais.
