Eine Begegnung in der Tiefe Vor ungefähr einem halben Jahrhundert hat sich der Autor auf die beharrliche Suche nach der Philosophie von Buddha und der Tiefenstruktur des Buddhismus gemacht. In der vorliegenden Schrift wird deutlich, dass der Buddhismus in seiner 2500-jährigen Geschicht…e große Veränderungen durchlaufen hat. Der frühe, indische Buddhismus hatte dieselbe Neigung wie die griechisch-christliche Tradition, um "Gott", also das Mysterium, die Leere, jenseits der Welt zu platzieren; ein schmerzlicher Dualismus. In der Madhyamika entwickelt sich die Idee, dass sich das Mysterium auch in den Phänomenen befindet, dass die Wellen Ozean sind und sich nicht unabhängig vom Ozean denken lassen. Im Zen wird die Leere (der Ozean) als ewig betrachtet, doch die Phänomene selbst (die Wellen) sind die Träger dieser Leere. Sie sind also nicht Maya, Er-schein- ung, sondern haben Teil am Mysterium. Für Dogen schließlich besteht das Mysterium nur in der Zeit, in der Phänomenalität. Es gibt keinen Gott jenseits der Welt, die Welt ist Gott, wobei die Welt nicht als Materie, sondern als Prozess der Vergeistigung gesehen wird. Der Autor nennt zwei Gründe, weshalb der Buddhismus so bedeutsam ist. Zum einen ist er mit dem wissenschaftlichen Denken völlig im Einklang und passt dadurch zur Weltanschauung des modernen westlichen Lesers. Zum andern nähert der Buddhismus sich am weitesten der Tiefenstruktur von Religion, derjenigen Dimension, in der alle Religionen übereinstimmen. Hier ist Platz für transzendente Emotionalität, für das "Selig sind die Sanftmütigen", d.h. es werden diejenigen, die sich vom Mysterium des Daseins ergreifen lassen, ernst genommen. Da im Buddhismus die Oberflächenstruktur (Schriften, Riten, Liturgien usw.) immer als nebensächlich galt, ist er eine Religion des Friedens, der Toleranz und der Hoffnung. Der Buddhismus, wie er hier vorgestellt wird, ist Teil des komparativen Denkens des Autors, worin die drei fundamentalen Weltbilder, Rationalismus/Wissenschaft (Sein), Mystizismus/Buddhismus (Nicht-Sein) und Natur/Daoismus (Werden) als komplementär und Teil der menschlichen Natur ausgearbeitet werden. Zum Autor: Prof. Dr. Ulrich Libbrecht (1928) studierte Sinologie an den Universitäten Gent (Belgien) und Leiden (Niederlande). Er ist emeritierter Professor für Sinologie, chinesische Philosophie und komparative Philosophie der Fakultät Östliche Philosophie und im Philosophicum der Universität Leuven (Belgien). Im Jahr 1988 gründete er die "Schule für komparative Philosophie Antwerpen" und "Philosophie Ost-West Utrecht".
