Marked in 1863 by John Bozeman and John Jacobs, the wagon-width trail ran through the last remaining great hunting country of Native American Indians; the flow of white pioneers and settlers provoked great resentment and attacks, which in turn led to U.S. Army military campaigns against the Indians including confrontations with the great Sioux chief Red Cloud. This re-creation of the story of the Trail, illustrated with maps & photos, was based on old journals, diaries, letters and pioneers' reminiscences.
