Condizione: Fine. 1st Edition. These are two very similar books, so I've grouped them together. Both deal with the way women were depicted in 19th century art, much of which focused on fantasies of feminine evil and the subjugation of women. Both are loaded with black and white images of classical art. Bram Dijkstra's "Idols of Perversity: Fantasies of Feminine Evil in Fin-de-Siecle Culture", Oxford University Press, 1986, quality paperback, first printing, with 453 pages and 319 illustrations. This one was signed by Bram to me. I made a clear plastic cover to protect it. On the inside opposite the front cover it is embossed with my library stamp. There is some darkening to the edge of the paper from age, with a little foxing on top, but this doesn't affect the interior. And there's some kind of wrinkle on the back cover, possibly from during manufacturing. It is in fine condition. Joseph A Kestner's "Mythology and Misogyny: The Social Discourse of Nineteenth-Century British Classical-Subject Painting", The University of Wisconsin Press, 1989. It's not signed, but it is a hardcover, first edition, first printing, with 418 pages and 220 images. There is just a little foxing on top that I almost missed. It is also in fine condition.
