Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Poor. Boards (HB) in very good condition with soiling and spots to page edges, top and side. Few brown spots back cover and two on spine. Inside is all clean and bright with no markings, creases or name stamps. Dust jacket in poor condition, in two pieces with ful tear…left side of cover, chips to edges. It is almost all there just not so pretty. From the preface by Papus. "The Tarot pack of cards, transmitted by the Gypsies from generation. to generation, is the primitive book of ancient initiation. This has been clearly demonstrated by Guillaume Postel, Court de Gébelin, Etteila, Eliphas Levi, and J. A. Vaillant. The key to its construction and application has not yet been revealed, so far as I know. I therefore wished to fill up this deficiency by supplying Initiates, i. e. those who are acquainted with the elements of occult science, with an accurate guide, which would assist them in the pursuit of their studies. The uninitiated reader will find in it the explanation of the lofty philosophy and science of ancient Egypt; whilst ladies are enabled to practise the use of the divining Tarot, by methods which we have rendered easy in Chapter XX. The book has been so arranged that each part forms a complete whole, which can, if necessary, be studied separately. I have used every effort to be as clear as possible; the public that has warmly welcomed my other books will, I hope, forgive the imperfections inherent to a work of this kind.". 355 pages with authors and works quoted.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. First American Edition. 6mo, 299, [5], 71, [5], 32, [4], 92, [4], 80, [4], 72 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Bound in full brown leather with two light brown labels to spine bearing gilt titling. Spine has gilt fillets, moderate wear to leather throughout, a chip to head, and light splitting to top of rear joint…. Boards have significant wear to edges exposing the boards in some areas, heavy bumping to lower fore corners, an area of heavy peeling to the leather around the fore edge of the rear board, and rubbing throughout. Text block has decorative speckling and moderate age-toning to edges, age-toning and foxing to endpapers, creases to corners of a few leaves, slight mis-trimming to bottom edges of the first two leaves of "The Surgeon's Practical Guide in Dressing", a spot of material transference from one leaf to another on the edge of the last page (likely due to an area of adhesive being pulled apart), light foxing throughout, and light penciling throughout. Shelved in Room A octavo overflow. Part of the "Select Medical Library" series by a publisher in Philadelphia, this book is an example of a trend in the 1830s and -40s where American publishers frequently printed European medical texts in monthly installments and then offered them bound together into annual volumes for doctors and medical students. Before international copyright laws and fast transatlantic shipping were established, these American reprints helped local physicians stay up-to-date at an affordable cost. 1415471. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: N/A. Second edition, revised. xxviii, 356, 18pp, with a tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece and diagrams and illustrations in text. Blue buckram cloth-covered boards, extensively decorated with gilt design on upper panel, gilt lettering front and spine. Top edge gilt. 8vo.…Cloth is a little worn, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, minor bumped affecting extreme lower leading corner, a few small indentations on edges. Slightly skewed. Fore and lower text block edges a little toned. Free endpapers and tissue-guard toned, with some mild spotting all over endpapers else internally neat. clean, bright and tight. Described as a foundational, advanced text for serious Tarot students, Tarot for Bohemians was originally written by the French physician and occultist Gerard Encausse (died 1916) under his pen name, Papus. It links the Marseilles Deck - a standard pattern of Italian-suited tarot cards popular in France from the 17th to 19th centuries - with Kabbalah, astrology and Hermeticism. A E Waite, designer of the well-known Waite-Smith deck (also known as the Rider-Waite deck) provides the preface for this English language edition, connecting the French tarot tradition to his own work and providing a key for students for deeper esoteric research.
