Pages are heavy paper and are tanned. One page corner has three 1/8 in. chips and a roughened area. The proceeding page has a 1/16 in. chip. The text block ends are darkened and have minute, light stains. The right hand side of the spine strip is wrinkled. About a fourth of the back board is mottled with lightly scraped spots. DJ appears to have been printed on scrap paper, as the reverse side has 2 copies of a one paragraph contract about cotton bales. The DJ has three 2 - 21/2 in. chips, seven 1/4 in. to 3/4 in. chips, 9 closed tears, up to 2 1/2 in., stains, mostly on the spine and back panels, and rubbed spots, mostly on the front flap's fold. The spine is slightly faded, a bit splotchy from what appears to be tiny drops of water, back board bright red cloth with one tiny splotch (a half cm diameter). Gift inscription on ffep.
