One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day (here, Elenore Plaisted Abbott), each with a colorful paper pastedown to the front board.Orig. published in this format in 1920, this is a 1929 printing, with 38 original stories!… In addition to the full-color title page, there are 8 other full-page, full-color plates throughout the 308 pages of text; a 9th is missing (Cinderella), but all are virtually flawless. Small 4to (7.25" x 9.5") has black cloth-covered boards with front paper pastedown, which shows edgewear & rubbing, as do the extremities of both boards, with cloth fraying at corners & both ends of spine. Condition is Good. The binding has been cracked & reglued, but ffep remains completely detached, with wear to fore edge. Text block secure, but gutter cracked between pages 68-69 (where missing plate would have been). Pages creamy white with significant tanning & the occasional spot or smudge, else unmarked. Despite condition issues, the plates are stunning & the stories remain as wonderful as ever! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
